| The Constitution provides for the government to levy taxes and collect tariffs to support an Army, to build a Navy, and to provide for the general operation of the government. The founding fathers did not provide for a permanent, ever-increasing, oppressive income tax system. The Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution was added 125 years later. In spite of there being no provision in the Constitution for such a tax, the Amendment allows for the collection of an income tax. What most Americans fail to realize is that the income to be taxed is limited in its scope. In a democratic society with freedom and personal responsibility, the levying of use taxes, sales taxes, and reasonable tariffs on trade are expected to conduct the affairs of government. However, since the government's only "job" is to protect the rights of the individual, it is impossible to understand the need for hundreds of government agencies, budgets in the thousands of billions of dollars (trillions), and a deficit that grows exponentially. It is time to stop the forced theft of our incomes, close the Internal Revenue Service, privatize those agencies within the government that actually serve a purpose, and put America back on track. With our taxes left to us as income, we would be free to provide for our own health care, welfare, and retirement. We would be able to purchase more goods, improve our own lives, and be charitable to those who need and deserve our help. The Republican position on income taxes is that they believe no American should have to send more than one-third of their hard-earned tax dollars to Washington. That's why they have supported the President's effort to reduce the tax burden on working Americans. The Republican Congress enacted tax relief for married couples, families, small business owners and farmers. One-third of our earnings to Washington in taxes? That's their goal? To whittle down the current burden a tad so that we all just send one-third of our hard-earned tax dollars to Washington? That's tax relief?
