Arizona's most popular nickname celebrates the State's fabulous mineral wealth. Copper is represented on the State flag by the copper star at the center.

State Flag 13 rays of red and gold on the top half represent the 13 original colonies. The bottom half of the flag has the same Liberty blue as the United States flag. Since Arizona was the largest producer of copper in the nation, a copper star was placed at the flag's center. The flag was adopted in 1917.
