According to military casualty information sources, the combined efforts of Desert Storm and Desert Shield (The Gulf War) resulted in the loss of 224 Army personnel and 56 Navy personnel. The names of most of the lost military personnel are unavailable. However, those buried or memorialized at Arlington National Cemetery are:

This loss of life was the result of the UN enforcement activities that the United States volunteered to support. Almost 300 American servicemen and servicewomen died in a country with which we had no direct conflict. The numbers of civilians lost during the conflict is unavailable.

In addition to the known dead, there are nearly 200,000 servicemen and women who participated in the Gulf War who now are experiencing severe health problems and clustered health conditions as a direct result of the Gulf War. To find out more about the Gulf War Syndrome, click HERE
